University backs Inter Faith Week campaign by creating art exhibition
University Studies at West Suffolk College is celebrating a campaign called Inter Faith Week by hosting an art exhibition in Bury St Edmunds this week.
The display will feature work from local artists and former students and will be situated within the University Professional Development Centre based on Western Way.
The work represents a selection of religious beliefs including Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Paganism.
Islamic and Jewish work will also be featured.
Inter Faith Week was established in England and Wales in 2009 and was set up to recognise the religious diversity of the UK.
According to organisers, ‘it (Inter Faith Week) encourages conversations and dialogues between different faiths and beliefs to explore greater understanding of each other’.
Robin Herne is lecturer at University Studies at West Suffolk College. Robin said: “We pride ourselves on being a welcoming environment that celebrates different cultures and religions, and we are delighted to be part of this important week.
“We embrace everyone who lives in our fantastic community at the university, and this is one of a number of campaigns that we support throughout the year that champions unity and harmony.”
The exhibition is open to the public and runs from Monday 11 November to Friday 15 November 2024.
One of the talented artists who will be showcasing their work is Agnieszca Procajlo – a former student of the college. In addition to her support of Inter Faith Week, Agnieska is currently planning an exhibition of her own that will be housed in the Bury St Edmunds Apex in 2025.
