A series of intriguing talks continues at University Studies at West Suffolk College
Join us for an immersive exploration of Suffolk's rich history and heritage, delving into morbid tales and intriguing historical facts about one of the region's most iconic landmarks in two of our upcoming talks.
The first discussion is entitled ‘Discovering the Abbey of St Edmund and is taking place on Thursday 18 April 2024. The second lecture called ‘Corpses of the Abbey’ will delve in to the mystery surrounding the death of Mary Tudor and is happening on Thursday 2 May 2024.
The free events (known as the Edmund’s Open Lecture Series) take place at the University Professional Development Centre on Western Way, Bury St Edmunds. Evening talks start at 17.45 with entrance, a drink, and nibbles free.
In addition to the Abbey talks, other upcoming chats will be on Apartheid in South Africa and the psychiatrist Carl Jung.
This series of community events have been taking place throughout the academic year and have included sessions on everything from Oscar Wilde to the Suffolk Regiment. A lecture Medieval Bury St Edmunds attracted 75 visitors, with 531 attending the lectures in total so far.
Robin Herne one of the coordinators of the Lecture Series said: “The Edmund’s Lectures free evening and daytime series has covered a wide variety of topics including history, literature, crime, sociology, animal rights, psychology and more besides.
“Audiences have included a wide swathe of Suffolk residents from Sixth Form students all the way through to the retired. Upcoming conferences and seminars for the remainder of this academic year include Jungian psychology, local history, and South African politics.”
